Bulgaria

Hello from Sofia (Bulgaria),
Here I am in the last month of my adventure in Sofia, Bulgaria. The land of  cucumber, yogurt, folk music, Kartofi soté (potatoes) and a 'Cyrillic' language... Bulgarian. What a difficult is to learn an entire new alphabet!! Leaving aside the difficulties of the language, I aim to bring some tips and insights to the adventurous one who decides to come and visit Bulgaria. I have to be honest, until this moment I have visited just a few places such as Sofia, Plovdiv and The Rose Valley but I hope to visit the coast soon :).

Let's get started:

Bulgaria has a beautiful nature, some places as Sofia have a numerous springs (all closed) around Vitosha's mountain, nice fields and landscape in general. Broadly speaking about its Architecture I have to say that communism time left a significant legacy in their buildings (flats and governmental ones), although there is a important contrast between rural places and cities where modern architectural styles are mixed.

Agriculture is one of the most important sectors in Bulgaria products such as cucumber, cherries (sheresha), potatoes (kartofi), tomatoes (domati), among others. Another star product in Bulgarian's kitchens is the milk and its derivatives; cheese (sirene & kashkaval), yogurt,  butter, etc. are somehow always on Bulgarian's table at any time. Ah! I almost forgot an important thing...amazing roast meat. :)

People and lifestyle in Bulgaria is quite easy, well not too much stressed in comparison with other capitals, the weather is steady and sunny, 22-25ºC average. Their people as everywhere, you can find good and bad people, nothing new although as a foreigner I found really complicated to communicate with them. Even putting on practice my little knowledge acquired in our Bulgarian Intense course, the results have been decent. You can find more info in Wikipedia, also I highly recommended the guide of Lonely Planet, really helpful. As a experience traveler that you are for sure you will find further info in the Net as TripAdvisor or others.

Note: if you are planning to go to visit Bulgaria...Just a tip..learn and  train the common phrases in Bulgarian моля (molya) - please

Next entry...SOFIA, in Cyrillic ...СОФИЯ....the city at the foot of the Vitosha's Mountain.
Have a great day!
