Weekend in Romania - Bucharest and Brasov

Hello all!

This trip was a fun-last-minute-trip with my flatmate. After watched 'Transylvania Hotel' movie we decided to visit Dracula's House (Bran Castle), in the real Transylvania, located in Romania. What a good idea! Packed and ready we headed Sofia Bus Station to catch our bus to Romania. We arrived at Bucharest early morning after a trip in a night-bus (it was a comfortable bus). The day welcomed raining and we have not a map to check where our hostel was but finally after a nice coffee we could situated ourselves :)).

One night in Bucharest. Average hostel, friendly and welcoming people (speak English) - we found ourselves lost at the bus station and we were indicated really well to reach the city center, thanks them they gave us the right indications LOL-. About the food, well, there is a bun called GOGOSI similar to doughnuts but without holes...so delicious! with or without sugar (yummy and cheap).

NOTE: If you are travelling through Bulgaria and later you decide to go to Romania have in mind that in Romania do not exchange Levs for Rons. The currencies are really weak in comparison with EUR and each other and they can not even care about BGN in Romania. In Romania there are a few places where you might pay in EUR but it is not common as it is not their principal currency yet.

Next day we took the train to Brasov, a nice and bit-posh city -Its name is showed at the top of a hill with 'hollywood' typography- surrounded by the Southern Carpathians, part of Transylvania Region. We arrived at our lovely hostel and after arranged everything we headed Bran Castle, the Dracula's House. So funny our quest for find the right bus which have to lift to the castle, some new people and the group started to increased! we were three in the quest! Finally we found the way after a lovely guy helped us to get the taxi to the bus station. Catched the bus we were at Bran Castle 2 hours later.

The landscapes are so beautiful, bright greens and blues. I loved it!

The first impression of Bran Castle was good. Although I have to say that the area seems to be a theme park: Overcrowded and full of souvenirs stores. Inside the atmosphere changes a bit (still overcrowded) but the building was well maintained. Nice spots from the Castle.

After our intense day, we took a bus back to Brasov (full of freshness! LOL). Our night in Brasov finished with a tour through the city. All ready and packed and again back to Sofia - by bus obviously! :)

Do and Dont's in Romania:
  • Do not provide BNG...it is useless and you lose money in the exchange. No Worthy.
  • Buy local food.
  • If you get lost...ask, people are friendly and speak English if you don't speak Rumanian. Bine!!
